Re: Update question
I can't answer your question definitively, but I can say this. When you go to cut in SCAL, it asks you what model and firmware you have installed. To me, that would imply that you don't HAVE to update the firmware. If you want to use the updated CDS version, THAT program will force you to upgrade yo...

Re: Congratulations to Todd!!
I have a new cyber-crush and his name is Todd. :D I have no idea what he looks like, but it really doesn't matter because he makes my Cricut sing. That's all he has to do! I'm so very happy he stuck with it and was able to unblock SCAL. I updated my DS tonight, and then updated SCAL, and they both w...

Re: Word Book ideas
Marly I am not sure if SCAL would work as well as the DS did due to it not having the multiple sheets to put each letter on. But if someone can think of a way of putting together a scut file that could be shared then I would be happy to host something. Raewyn The only way I can think of doing it is...

Re: Word Book ideas
I can't seem to open the files! It wants to open in notepad but when it opens it's just a bunch of jibberish! Any suggestions? Thanks. If you got them from the Cricut.com site, you have to change the file extension to .cut before you can try to open them. They save them as .txt so that they can att...

Re: CHECK THIS OUT!!!!
I was told by a rep at http://www.stickystuff.biz (I think the owner?) that the angle of the blade makes it cut thicker materials (including craft foam) easier. She warned, however, that the downward pressure of the Cricut isn't as great as some of the other cutting machines, but the blue-cap blade ...

Re: .cut file made into a .svg file??
I think (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) you'd have to take a screenshot of what you have in DS, import that to Inkscape and trace it. I tried opening the .cut file in Inkscape and importing the .cut file to Inkscape, neither of which worked for me.

Re: Cricut has finally addressed the issue...
I love my SCAL as well. I must admit that were it not for SCAL I might have bought the Home Accents cart, but other than that, none of the new carts interest me. I like the full-featured carts that give me options and help me be creative -- most of the new ones are mini carts. I like the mini price ...

Re: I am brand new and so excited but I need some help....
As sboz said, you don't NEED Inkscape unless you want to do something custom. As for how to use it, there are some pretty good tutorials on the Inkscape page. If you go back there (http://www.inkscape.org) and click on the Documentation link, there are a few tutorials on that page. Like many things,...

Re: Need Help Please
Just curious, but did you upgrade your Cricut firmware first with Design Studio? Because without doing that, SCAL can't work. The firmware upgrade allows the computer to send commands to the Cricut via the USB port.
