I am brand new and so excited but I need some help....

Post by canadianscrapper »

...ok, maybe a lot of help. I just bought SCA and cut out a test piece with flourish dingbats. I have heard you can import any image from anywhere into a program called Inkscape. Is this true? Is it easy to do??
I went to try and download the program from a link some was kind enough to post but when I hit "download" it just brings me to a page with a list of the files in the program. Am I supposed to download all these files separately? If so then what do I do with them all?
Also I noticed some info on the Inkscape page about how it is a "pre-release" and that there are a lot of "bugs". Has anyone had trouble with this?
Hopefully if you got this far, someone will be willing to answer my questions.
Thanks!

Look for version .45 or .451 of Inkscape. I have v.45.

You only need Inkscape if you want to change a clipart or your own design into a .svg file which SCAL can 'read'. You dont need Inkscape to us dingbats.

Welcome to the board! :D

Shari,
thanks for replying :) I downloaded Inkscape..... now what? Lol! I'm clueless! I am normally pretty good on computers but I don't know where to begin with this...could you give me a low down on what this does? I would like to design my own images. Are there any tutorials available. I tried the help menu but like every other program out there it's Greek to me :)
Thanks
Lisa

Take any picture and put it into inkscape, Then you have to select an option from the top menu (I think) it's trace image. Then save as a SVG file. Go to SCAL and import image - viola.

As sboz said, you don't NEED Inkscape unless you want to do something custom. As for how to use it, there are some pretty good tutorials on the Inkscape page. If you go back there (http://www.inkscape.org) and click on the Documentation link, there are a few tutorials on that page. Like many things, practice makes perfect, and you might just need to play with the software a little bit before you actually make something with it to import to SCAL.

there is a tutorial for Inkscape on the products page
here- it shows you how to make an .svg file from an image and import to SCAL for cutting.
