If you type the notes in your file in Inkscape but never convert them to path, they will stay with the file and show up when you open it, but will not cut.

I posted a violin here a while ago. It is an svg file, I added it to the objects category. It wouldn't be too hard to turn it into a cello, double bass, viola.
