star tool

how come when i click the star tool in inkscape i get a square? what am i doing wrong?

You need to fix the settings in the toolbar that is at the top when the star tool is selected. There is a paintbrush button there that will restore the defaults. Then you can change the number of points in the star and fiddle with lots of other variables. I love the star tool!

Perhaps somewhere along the line you changed something on the command line.

To get your star back try these settings in Inkscape.

not sure what your talking about i don't see a paint brush in the tool bar

nope still not working,your tool bar is different

are you saying that you do not see this selection on your screen?

Mastermom,
You should see the toolbar like the one in papasues screenshot above (only) when the star tool is selected. If your window is not wide enough, you have to click the continuation button (looks like a down arrow) to get to the buttons that won't fit and you should find the paintbrush there. If you don't see that toolbar at all then choose view>show/hide>tool controls bar to bring it back.
