converting

Post by bsnell816 »

I am extremly new to Sure Cuts a Lot and Inkscape. I have a logo I need to convert in order to cut on my Cricut. Can some one take me through the steps on how to do this. I have gotten it to come up on Inkscape but I am unable to save and import into SCAL.

The best way depends on the colors and complexity of the logo. If you can find it online, post a link to it and we can help you better.
There is a good basic tut here. http://scrappydew.com/tutorials/files/M ... orial.html
Dan99 has a tut that works well with colored images. http://dan99.blogspot.com/2009/01/video ... o-svg.html
I'm sure there are others out there as well. Firstcut has a master list. http://cleversomeday.wordpress.com/2009 ... -new-home/

I did everything he did on the tut and nothing shows up when I go to import svg. He made it look so easy.

If you are tracing an image, either make sure that you delete the image and not the path, or just leave the image in the file. It won't cause any problems to have bitmaps or unconverted text in your svg file. BTW, which video are you referring to?

I watched the Scrappydew tutorial. I am going to try and post my image/logo and see if someone can help me with it. I have gotten to the point of getting the logo and Schaffer to come out okay it's just the smaller lettering that I am having trouble with. It is not legible at all. How would I go about providing this?

Ok. I got all deleted that I want deleted but now I am having issues getting it all to connect again. I used instructions from another post. That said to break apart in the path. How do I get it back together? HELP! I am soooo close to having this done.

If you just want to put the pieces back like they were, you should be able to select the pieces, then Path/Combine. You don't actually have to do this, this is more so that the preview in the Ink open dialog window shows the whole image, rather than just a black shape.
If the pieces are touching and you want them welded you select them, then Path/Union. HTH, my brain's a little fuzzy from lack of sleep. :D

It looks fine when I am in Inkscape and when I save it. When I import it into SCAL it is distorted. There are pieces that are moved.

It sounds like you probably used Object/Group. Open the file in Inkscape, control A, look at the message bar at the bottom of the Inkscape window. If it says "Group" use Object/Ungroup until it no longer says "group". Control A when you are done to confirm that there are no more groups. HTH
