HELP!!!!--straight stray lines through image

Post by tonwon73 »

I need some help in inkscape please! I am trying to manipulate some clip art, everything is good until I look at the image in outline view and there are straight lines (that having nothing to do with the image) going through my clip art. I click on them and nothing happens, but when I look at in node view the straight line is connected to a node when I try to delete that node the line jumps to another node and on and on, before I know it my image is no longer the image I started with. Can someone please tell me how to fix this?! I would like to use this image to make a t-shirt for my husband for father's day. TIA!
Desperately in need of help,

That sounds like the ghost lines that show up in Outline view. Are they there in SCAL? IF they don't show up in SCAL, then other than the aggravation, they don't cause any harm. You learn to ignore them, or most of the time I work with a very thin stroke and no fill.

Heather they do show up in scal it actually cuts along with the clipart image, truthfully it destroys it, cutting pieces of the image in half, very annoying!

Stray lines in SCAL are usually caused by lines or open shapes. If there are open shape then SCAL will cut lines to make closed shapes. Do the lines in SCAL always show up in the same place when you use the preview? If they do, then look at the ends of the line in Inkscape to see if there is a line or open shape there. HTH

I sometimes notice this in inkscape, so I always give my images a good Shake and it seems to refresh the lines.

ScrappyDew, I can move the image around and the lines will move to a different place, out of the image itself so I think oh cool they went away, now I can cut it. I look at it in SCAL and they are not there :D , but when it is through cutting there they are, right in the middle of my image that I cut :( .
I do not know what else to do.

It sounds like you might have open shapes/lines. Open your file in Inkscape and look in the areas where the extra line ends. See if you can find places where lines aren't connected. What does your file look like in Inkscape with normal view and a fill in your shapes?

Heather I did try that, it is just a straight line that goes nowhere. Would it be easier if I sent you the file, so you can see what I am talking about?
