Ok here is the file for the windmill horses pear bush ...thanks Heather so much ...couldn't have done this without you !!!! picture is ot the best but was in a hurry...
I would like to find a windmill to cut out for a stencil...I have stained glass that can be etched as the glass looks stained all the way threw but actually has color on one side ...my dad sandblasted a windmill, brush with no leaves and pearbush ( catus)..thanks !!!!

when I opened this in scal, the horses were on top the windmill...and I thought I was so smart....any ideas why the pict looks right but doesn't open like the picture looks...I still have inkscape open with the file on it....

The image is grouped. Either right click on it and select ungroup, or from the menu go Object/ungroup.
SCAL doesn't like anything grouped through the Object options, but Path/combine is ok.
Also, the horses are each a group of one. They need to be ungrouped and Path/union with the windmill or you will end up with separate pieces (plus little pieces in between where they overlap). The sun was also open at the 11 o'clock position, but this doesn't look like it is a problem.
