Paint Shop Pro Question

Post by Nanette »

Hi all, I've been reading for hours and am not exactly sure I am correct in my understanding of SCAL.

I am proficient in PSP... I was at one time a beta tester for Jasc before they sold out to Corel. So creating my own graphics and designs is not problem.

What I'm not sure I understand is what format I would have to save my graphics in from PSP to open in SCAL or would I need Inkscape to convert my graphics into the correct format for SCAL?

I just got my Cricut Expression for Christmas and am still learning to use the machine and the two carts that came with it. But I can see myself getting bored with cutting the same old things really fast. I've not downloaded the program(s) yet, would like to know what I have to have before I decide.

I did down load the Cricut Design Studio and was disappointed that you can only use the carts you have and it's not an intuitive program to use. It takes alot of reading just to do simple things that should be click and go easy.

TIA,

Nanette

Scal is set up to work with ttf fonts and dings, Inkscape is set up to make graphics into svg that can be imported into Scal then cut on your Cricut. But you will need Inkscape to make the svg's to import into scal. I also have paint shop pro X1 and it says it recognizes svg's but can't do the conversion. Inkscape is easy compaired to PSP and is a free download that makes beautiful graphics into svg's. I hope this helps some :)

Thanks for the info Grammy. So after looking at Inkscape, I see that I can open graphics that I made in PSP if I save them in the right format and then resave them in Inkscape in the correct format for SCAL. I have some beautiful brushes that I designed for PSP 9 that would make some great images.

Now...just to talk hubby into the price of SCAL and I'll be all set!

I would love to see some of your work. I am especially interested in your brushes. Please note that the brushes need to be closed shapes - no open edges to be able to cut in SCAL. Use the cost savings of not having to buy cartridges in your argument for purchasing SCAL. You never need one unless you especially like a certain design available as a convenience on a cart. Otherwise, SCAL is the only thing you need.

I usually work with jpgs i clean in PSP then import into Inkscape and make them bmps. I don't think the brushes, tubes or masks will work in Inkscape. You can though screen shot your brush and then make it a jpg/bmp etc and then make it into a svg file. I have attached the files that Inkscape will recognize. But trust me if you can handle paint shop pro this will be easy for you. I would love to be able to cut one that is like a mask, but for now just tying to get around here. I'm just getting into learning how to union to pieces together without the break path nodes and the join nodes proceedure. I have it figured out but have to think about it to get it to work, not natural yet.
If I had a suggestion for you is go and download the free Inkscape and play, there are wonderful tuits out there, Susan is the greatiest and I can't say enough about Annointed hands she has helped me soooo much. And of course we have the wonderful Dan99 who knows just about everything from svg to stamping. Ok it's time to go have funnnnnn!!!

Wreed... I used to have my own website but we moved and I couldn't afford to maintain it. I taught people via my site to use PSP. If I had your email address I would be happy to send you my zipped files that were on my site for years.

Grammy, I'm going to download Inkscape and play with it in a few days. I spent the afternoon learning more about the machine and what I can do with what came with it. Very limited according to my imagination, but then I always figure if there's a will there's a way to do it.

I had to run out and get a new blade already.. lol I should have gotten a new mat too but didn't have the cash on me today so that will be part of next weeks trip to Michael's.

Hubby told me tonight I can get SCAL but I have to wait until next month, we have a few bills from the Holiday's he wants to pay off this month. In the meantime I think I have enough to keep me busy... plus I got some wonderful card stock from my daughter that I'm dying to use so I may just get my rubber stamps out and between the E and my stamps just play.

Post by btails »

You spoke of getting a new mat..there are plenty of suggestions on this site that will help you fix your old mat if all that is wrong is the stickness..is that a word?? any way I do some stenciling and I sprayed lightly the stencil adhesive spray onto my mat..just be sparing with it..it has lasted longer than the origanl stickiness....search this site and here are clever ways of cleaning the mat also...I just got started and thought I would have to throw the mat out....thanks goodness I searched the topics here...everyone has been so great and helping me !
