conversion programs from Publisher to something else

Post by gj1 »

I was wondering...I have some cd labels that I print for my son on our old pc...it is a snail.
They are in Publisher format from years ago. We want to beable to use the same labels, as the have all the info typed into them, but change them to a format so they can be opened in another computer without Publisher, to print like on Avery labels program that is current for the labels that can be bought today. Does anyone know how we can take the Publisher files and make them into something more versatile...to be printed any way that we choose?

Thank you so much for this...I gave it a try, but it changes the sizing and then half of the picture of the cd label is gone.
I don't know how to change the size to make it work. I will try again tomorrow...thanks, again!

Since I don' t do "windows"of any kind I just took a look for you. I assume that you tried a screen capture that would give you a png or jpg and then you could recreate it or are wanting to convert a bunch of them instead of just a template. I am surprised that converting it to a word doc doesn't work.

Good luck.

Well, I don't know if it does or not, till tomorrow. I don't have word on my laptop, so I sent them to see if they will work for him...he will let me know when he gets them.

I wanted so bad to take a screen shot, but on the old computer...I can't figure it out, anymore. Is it control alt + c and then open paint and control alt + v? It just did not seem to work and I don't know what the Fn key is on the old keyboard.

I am stumped by this.

No..

It is ALT-PRTSCN to grab the screen, then CTRL-V to paste into paint ;)

Thanks so much...I have completely forgotten everything about operating that old unit. And yet, I just can't seem to part with it.
I can work with a good picture file,... I believe...this will save me retyping everything into a new template.

Publisher generally outputs vectors so if you install a PDF driver like Bullzip you may be able to save vector PDFs that will import right into SCAL. Here's a related blog post with some details. In it I recommend a different PDF driver, but now that SCAL and MTC can import PDFs Bullzip is my preferred one since it can also save as jpg, png, etc.

I will read the suggestions...and see if I should do that.

For now, I got all the screen shots and cropped and resized to fit a label properly, (I hope the sizing will be right), and am waiting to hear if they will work for him.

I want to thank you all for lending a thought on what might work...I sure do appreciate having you all here!

This is what has happened.
Made all of the picture files, but could not easily position them on a Word cd template, or get 2 to paste in.
So,
I decided to figure further and found some answers through 'search'...it is not so difficult.

Open file in Publisher.
Edit Select All
Arrange and Group
Edit and Copy
Open Word and Paste
Save as Word Document

Do that for 2 labels

Open Windows template that we need to use...got it from Worldlabel
Open 1st new label in Word Document format and copy...
... paste into the template and position...it moves easy now!
Save as something...give it a name.
Open 2nd new label in Word Document and copy...
...paste into the template and position

Save again and it is done. Now, he has printed it and it looks like it will work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And, then there is this for converting them to pdf's

I learned a bunch of stuff today :)
