fonts with windows 7
fonts with windows 7
I finally gave in and purchased a new computer. I didn't want to part with Windows XP. When I had XP I could just open a font (not install it) and it would show up in my list of fonts in SCAL2. Now with windows 7, I open the font the same way, but it is not showing up in the list. Is there something else I need to do or do I have to install any fonts I want to use?
Re: fonts with windows 7
When I download fonts I just save to my desktop and then I go to the start menu and click on control panel and then open my font files. Then I just take the font on my desktop and drag over to the fonts file and it saves it there. Then the font is available for any program I use on my computer. Others may come along and have different ways they save their fonts but that is how I do mine and its so easy. Hope I have been of help to you.

Thank you - what I was hoping to do is not save the fonts in the font file, it makes the list quite long. With XP you could just have the font in a folder and just open the font, but not save it in the font file. When the font is open it will appear in the list, but once you close the font it is no longer in the list. Works great for a font that is only used once in a while.

Your best option is to use a font manager. I like NexusFont. It lets you use fonts without installing them, they just need to be in folder open in NexusFont. I also like how you can see your word or phrase in all of your fonts and at any size you need to see it well.
I keep most of my font files in a folder under Documents. They won't slow down your computer unless they are actually installed. Also, that makes it easier for me to back them up ('cause they are important too, and you wouldn't want to loose your collection if something happens to your computer). HTH

Thanks Heather.
I had checked your blog to see if you had info on this - because I thought I had seen some posts from you before, but couldn't find it on the blog. Thanks for responding. I have most of my fonts saved on a jump drive, for the same reason, I don't want to loose them if something happens to the computer.
