Quickie visual Draw and Cut eclips

Post by papasue »

When I first tried this I instinctively used "old" habits and turned off layers thinking that I would draw and then cut around but it doesn't work that way in eCAL....it works BETTER.

The action of draw/cut is all in one action. Here is what the screen looks like. I've marked how you designate what to do to get ready. Then all you do is "print preview" to ensure that you've got orientation and material size correct. On this one orientation is VERTICAL and MATERIAL is 8.5x11.

When you select cut you will be prompted to put the pen (color decided by your image color). Follow the instructions on the screen and here's what you get. How cool is this!

The pen is a SHARPIE, ULTRA FINE, PERMANENT MARKER.... on sale at Staples for $1.00 yesterday. The font is Rosewater free at dafont and others.

Let's hear how you do and what you make. FEEDBACK would be appreciated.

LOVIN MY ECLIPS.

Thanks G, P2C works exactly the same way you just have to "skip" draw when eCAL says to insert the pen. EASY PEASY.

So, when you insert your text, while the text is still highlighted, you tell it to draw? (so that layer is a draw layer?). Then when you go to cut and it cut, it will tell you to put the pen in? and then to put the blade back in? Thanks so much Papasue!!! I need to get a pen holder soon.

OK, take it a few steps further.
  • Change the "cut" cloud to a draw, pick a line color
Add embellishments to it, I used one from Rosewater (sorry I didn't get them line up perfectly) choose another color.
Select the cloud and make a shadow layer (object/shadow layer) I bumped it up to 1.5 I think.

and you get this. Sorry the pic is blurry, shakey hands you know.

I did all of this in eCAL. If you use Inkscape you just change the elements you need to to draw or cut.

Yep, it does the draw layers first telling you which color of pen to insert, then asks you to insert the blade and it cuts whichever layers are designated "cut" no turning layers on or off!

How cool is that.....on reading, I think you can put ANY kind of pen in.....even glitter glue pens.

Mine doesn't seem to be doing what it is supposed to. I am going to attach my file. I do have several layers of everything I plan to put on my card and all are turned off except the text and the shape around the text.

The text is set to draw.
The shape is set to cut.
In the cut menu - it is on the auto setting (blade/pen)

When I go to cut, eCal quits on me every time. (I do have the pen holder in at the time).

If I just do the shape, it will draw the shape if I have the pen holder in.
