Hi, All.
I found this file on the forum, and saved it to my desktop. It's apparently a .jpeg file, not a scut. My computer wants to open it with Paint, and I'm at a loss here. I would appreciate any and all help to get this file into SCAL. TIA

It's a .scut (3dKirigamiSnowflake.scut) but I can't do anything with it in Ink and SCAL won't import it. I set Paint as the default to open phots on my computer because I don't have Microsoft Word and I refuse to pay the exorbitant price for it. As a result, I do a lot of work-arounds that cause other difficulties. Anyway, it would just be nice to be able to cut this file in SCAL instead of by hand. Thanks, Susan for your willingness to help.

Hmmmm if it is a .scut file you should be able to open it in SCAL. Did you try that? If you have scal2 if it opens in there you can export it to Inkscape as an svg file.
If you pm me with your email addy I will send you my addy for you to email me the file. Too bad we can not attach file to PM
The file opened fine for me I think the problem is that we are expecting something different than what it actually is. I found the finished product along with the file in a different format here http://www.theathertons.info/2008/12/th ... e-pattern/. Pretty interesting and it could be a lot of fun with kids.

I have recreated the file from scratch using both the wiki file on how to put the file together and the link above.
My file will cut a full 11.5 inches, so place the file in SCAL exactly at X = 0.25, and Y= 0.25
Then you will need to snip with scissors (gasp) the last 0.25" to make a 6" pieces.
Or when I get around to cutting this file, I make try to make the snowflakes smaller, so I would need to tweak the svg to a smaller scale and add more lines to cut more squares... but that is a discussion for another day...
Thanks so much, everyone! I had imported it into SCAL and couldn't see it, but it was on page 2 for some reason and I'm very embarrassed. Thank you for recreating the file, Dogcarbon.
People on this forum can always be counted on to come to a person's aid and in timely fashion to boot. It's really appreciated.

I DID IT, well I've actually only constructed one and it was a whole lot easier than seeing the instructions and the video. I doubt I will be able to roll and tape as fast as the video shows but I'll hang in there and finish it.
Thanks DC for the cut pattern and the links to the tuts.
Here's what I've done with the file so far. The purple and blue hanging is in my living room window right now. The large white snowflake is made with handmade paper. The photo doesn't show the texture or how glittery it is. The tree ornament is also handmade paper, testured and glittery. There are so many possibilities with this file. Different papers give such different looks. Does anyone else have photos to share?
