Silhouette Cameo & SCAL3

Post by pengyou »

I am not sure where to post this, so I figured I would just start here. I own a Cricut Expression. I bought it knowing that I would use it strictly with SCAL, as I had no desire to purchase or use cartridges. I adore SCAL and have been happy with the updates and growth of the software, as well as CraftEdge. I do NOT like my Cricut Expression or Craft Provo or the way they do business, but I digress. This post is all about my new LOVES the Silhouette Cameo and of course SCAL3.

I have been following the chatter about the Silhouette Cameo for months now and could not wait to get my hands on one. I am happy to say that it is easy to use, especially with SCAL3. I was nervous that there would be a huge learning curve, but not so far. Honestly, it has been as simple as plug and go. I watched several youtube videos prior to plugging everything in, since I am not familiar with the Silhouette.

I have cut a bunch of things, including vinyl. Love it!!! You do NOT need a cutting mat in order to cut your vinyl. I saw a video, I think by SilhouetteEurope, and they left the vinyl still attached to the roll. They simply unrolled a few inches, adhesive size down, and loaded it directly into the Cameo and cut! Not only do you not waste as much as when you cut vinyl and place it on the mat, but you can literally cut up to 10 feet long!!!!! How awesome is that?!?!

Anyway, I will continue to keep everyone posted on my new Cameo adventures. :)

Thank you so much for sharing this information about the Cameo. I won't get another cutter until my E dies, but it does help to hear about other experiences with the different machines. Have fun.

Yes...thank you. I can't jump into one right now either, but when I am ready the Cameo will be the one. Enjoy reading everyone's experiences and successes.

Ditto! Ditto! Ditto! I have been reading all the reviews of machines and websites, etc. and was leaning towards an Ecraft but then I started watching the videos on YouTube, etc and reading comments and yours tops the cake. I have an E but if and when it dies, this will be my choice.
Thank you so much for your "review" and input. Its wonderful to have people tell us about it. 8-)

Thank you, I was eyeing this machine as well. For me I will continue to use my Cricut with SCAL 2 as I do have pretty good investment in the machine and cartridges. Like the simplicity of the designs being there was well. But I just might take the plunge and also buy the Cameo as well. I like the options the Cameo offers and was just wanting to see what the learning curve is on this machine. Sounds easy enough.
