HELP ....coloring digi stamps

Does anyone know if you can you color a png image (digi stamps)in inkscape without turning into path? Can someone point me towards a Tutorial ?would really like to
learn how to do this.

I think this might be what you are looking for.

You can also do this right in SCAL...just trace the digi, ungroup, break apart, and give each piece a color...under View uncheck show outlines only to reveal the colors assigned in the color palette.

You can color the image and then click on file/export bitmap.. this will prevent it from changing into an svg.. you can also convert to jpeg instead of png.. I do this all the time..
