I was wondering if we have to have the cartridges in order to use them on this program? I bought the Cricut Design Studio last night and I could only cut from there what cartridges I have. And I only have 1 cartridge and I was hoping I don't have to spend $50-$100 dollars on a cartridge everytime I need something to be cut. So just to be clear, this is what I mean:
If I wanted to print something from the cartridge "Create a Critter", I would have to put that cartridge in the cricut in order for it to cut. So I really think that program is a waste of your money. Is this program the same way or can you use any of the fonts, pictures and etc?

You can't use any of the Cricut cartridges with SCAL. What you Can use are fonts, svg files, and scut files (not DS cut files though). There are many files and fonts available for free or low cost without needing to pay $$$. You will need to have one cartridge (any cartridge will work) in your machine to cut with SCAL, but that is for the machine's self-test, not to cut from. HTH

Hi. You only need one cartridge in the cricut to use the program. But you can use any fonts and non copy right image with scal. You only need to buy a cartridge if you want what is on the cartridge. There are tons of really great files on here to cut out that people have made. Just make sure you use nothing that is copy right.
