transfer tape

Post by kimberlyjoy »

I am wondering if anyone has a good transfer tape that you use. I purchased some a year ago from Sign Warehouse, and have an awful time using it. The vinyl sticks to the tape so well that I have to peel it away one little piece at a time. This has caused me to ruin some things because the vinyl has ripped, no matter how slowly I peel it. I have a friend who is a professional sign maker who used it and said it was the worse stuff he had ever used. I would like to try some of the more intricate cuts posted here, but am afraid to because of my poor quality transfer tape.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

I have never needed a large piece of transfer tape (I make do with masking tape), so I have no suggestions on what brand to buy, but I do have a suggestion on how to use your current transfer tape. Stick it to something fuzzy. That will minimize its stick factor, and you can still use it until you can find something better. I have a wool rug that sheds like a hairy dog, so I slap my tape on there before I use it on my vinyl. Works every time!

I seem to remember that Kay (firstcut) suggested using drywall tape as it was much cheaper, but I can't find the reference here or on her Blog (cleversomeday). Perhaps she will show up someday and remind us what it is.

I did find this thread tho comparing contact paper vs drywall tape.
