Path/Union not working ???

Hi,

I am trying to cut a frame with a thank you caption in the middle that attaches to the frame on all 4 sides. I can't get it to not cut in the intersecting areas. How do I eliminate the cut lines ??? I tried Path / Union but that didn't do anything. What am I doing wrong ????

I am not sure what you may be doing wrong but I do know union is not working I was told they are supposed to have it fixed on the next update it may be to big I maen the words but I am intrested to know how to create something like this as well I saw a wonderful card today that had a circle cut out with a dove in the middle and it said peace I want to know how its done BTT for you

This is the one I saw that inspired me to try to do this with the THANK YOU. The dove one sounds great also.

I don't think it's a problem with the software, I think it's a user error. At the bottom of the page, I put two hearts overlapping and did "path / union" and it worked. Not sure why it won't work on my THANK YOU. I must have done something wrong. Hopefully someone will set me straight.

Ok, so you have to first separate your layers out...

Move the frame... Get your "thank you" set up first: path--> back minus front, or front minus back (whichever one works) [maybe you have to "group" it first?]

Then adjust your frame to how you want it: back minus front or whatever works... then put your image inside the frame:

Then DRAG a square around it then: Path--> union... just play around, and you'll get it. If it does something you didn't want to do, just undo and try something else.

Then preview before you cut, so you don't waste your paper...

OMG it worked. I had to put it in "node" mode but then it worked when I did Path / Union. Now I'll have to see if I can do it again. I've been playing with this for hours and then I read your post and got it to work. Thanks !

Just played with it and here's how I got it to work:

Deleted both rectangles
Move font layers on top of each other
Click off on mat
Edit/select all
Object/group
Window/shapes/rectangle
Resize and move rectangle over font
Click off on mat
Edit/Select all/Path/Front minus back
Window/shapes/rectangle
Resize for outside rectangle and move over first shape
Click off on mat
Edit/select all
Object/group
