Half Circle

Post by TOASTER »

I know this seems strange but I would like a half circle. I have a baby bug and if I make large 2 half circles and put them together I can get one large one. I have tried using letters but so far it doesn't work.

Could you cut 2 full circles and cut each of them in half with a regular paper cutter? Oh, re-read your message, you want even larger circles then what would fit on the 6x12 mat. Can you make the 1/2 circle in Inkscape, save it as an SVG file and import it into SCAL?

I haven't wandered into the inkscape world yet (seems complicated). I'd like to be able to make a circle that would be large enough to use as a mat for a 8x10 photo. I was thinking of welding a name on the top of the circle and putting a photo of my daughter on it. If I had the big bug I could do it but I am trying to find a way to piece the circle with the small bug. Two half circles should work.

I haven't done any drawing in Inkscape either, but there are tutorials and a lot of Inkscape experts here who might assist you if asked.

If you use the basic shapes in SCAL and size the circle so that it goes off the mat, whatever is off the mat won't cut. So you could size your circle so that the halfway line (diameter) of the circle is sitting on the cutting line. That will cut a giant semi-circle for you.

I tried your suggestion and it worked (kind of). I did get 2 half circles but when I put them together it looked like a football. I guess I need to play with it a little more. Thanks for the suggestion.

On the properties, check the height and width of each shape. The height and width numbers should be exactly the same in order for the shape to be perfectly round when you cut. Also, make sure the height and width numbers are exactly the same for both semi-circles. You can manually adjust the settings. Also, make sure that you put the flat part of each semi-circle dead center on the dotted line that is to match up with the other semi-circle. Those could be reasons for the football shape.
