Gear Shaped Border to Basic Shapes in Inkscape

Post by wreed06 »

I don't know how I got this, but I have gear shaped border to a basic shape whenever I draw one in Inkskape. I must have set this somehow, but have no idea how, and even less idea how to get rid of it and return it back to the normal line edge. I've searched in Inkscape as well as the help, but I can't find the solution. Does anybody know of a setting I can check? TIA.

Oh, I guess a picture of the problem might be helpful...

Under Path>Effects that is a selection for Gears. That might be a starting point. I don't know how you would make it a default so you might have to look further.

Thanks for your feedback. I looked in Path->Effects before. There's an option to make a gear. I'm trying to do the opposite. Right now, when I draw a circle, it looks like a circle with gear teeth as I showed above. I don't want that. I want a plain circle with a line edge. I don't know how to change it back (don't know how it got that way to begin with!)

Whew...I think I finally figured it out.

It has to do with the Shape Properties...that is how I recreated the gear effect. Went to the Stroke Style tab, set the width High and selected the dashed line and set the value high. Check to see if your values are similar when you create the same shape you are having the problem with (if you create a square, it will not have the same value. You need to create the same shape...will explain later).

Part II. Check the File>Inkscape Properties>Shapes>Eclipse...if that is set at Last Style Used, you will have that style for the shape until you change it. It won't affect any other shape because it is set for only that shape.

Thank you so much!! The Fill and Stroke fixed it for me. All shapes are set to use the last style used, so I only needed to fix it on one. I chose to use a solid line with a circle and all other shapes now use the solid line. I understand what you mean about setting each shape independently, but since I had all shapes set to use the last style used, I only had to set it once. Boy, that one had me going - I was so mad when I could figure it out - was getting ready to uninstall and reinstall just to get the defaults back.

Thank you very much for your help.
