Separating an image in inkscape

Post by cardclutter »

Can anyone help me with my inkscape image. It seems that no matter what image I put in if I select the item, then Path and trace bitmap, it does nothing? I have it working a couple months ago, now nothing.

Thanks

What file type is the image that you are trying to trace?
Is there good contrast in your image?

It does have some contrast. I am not able to get my path-trace bit map to work with any image that I import. It is a jpg file that I am trying to trace. I cannot upload it here because it is too big.

I can email the file to anyone who wants to give it a try.

What mode are you using?
Are you using Preview to adjust your settings, and then OK to make the trace?

I never even get the box to open. I open the inkscape program. Click File, import and the image. Then have my pointer tool selected with the bars around the image. Click path and trace bitmap and then nothing. I even used images that I have coverted and saved before, but it will not do anything with the uncoverted image.

I haven't been able to find anything to help you with this. You might try re-installing Inkscape and see if that helps.

Here is an svg file of your image. Sorry I couldn't help you more with the trace problem.

Personally, I prefer to use GIMP's tracing tools to Inkscape's. I still can't understand Inkscape's dialog box with all those settings. GIMP has the "magic wand" that I understand well. Then, I save the selection as SVG and open in Inkscape for clean up. Yes, it's another program and several more steps, but I find it fits my brain better.
