when i open inkscape i keep getting this pop up....
"The preferences file C:\Users\Lisa Carrillo\AppData\Roaming\inkscape\preferences.xml is not a valid XML document.
Inkscape will run with default settings, and new settings will not be saved. "
what does it mean? and how do i fix it? TIA...
can someone please help?

It means Inkscape isn't happy with the preferences.xml file. I suggest navigating to that directory and checking that the preferences file is there. If it is, delete it and reopen Inkscape confirming that it creates a new preferences file.
If the file is NOT there, it's possible Inkscape does not have permission to write to that directory. That turns into a whole Windows permissions thing which is probably a bit more complex than can be dealt with via the forum.
Also, that's a non-standard Windows path (maybe it's standard in Windows 7 or Vista, I'm still an XP guy), so I'm a bit perplexed on why that path is being used.
