Hi All!
I just purchased SCAL...some questions I have...
when I download fonts how do I save them to my computer and make sure they appear in my font file (the one that you see when you use word)?
I can't find where SCAL was put on my computer since I downloaded it. Any suggestions of where to look?
When I download SVG files do I save them directly to SCAL? If so how do I do this? If not where should they be saved?
Thats all I can think of for now..thanks everyone for the help and I can't wait to get started playing with SCAL!

Here's some answers to your questions:
For the fonts, when you download them they are normally a zipped file. You would need to unzip them to the folder of your choice. Then just locate the font file you unzipped, right click the font and select install. The new font will then appear in your fonts folder.
I'm not sure what type of operating system you have, but I have Windows Vista so this is how I would get to the SCAL program.
I click the windows flag start icon in the lower left part of my screen, then click ALL PROGRAMS which is above the search box, then click CRAFT EDGE. There you will see the "Sure Cuts A Lot" program.
As far as saving the SVG files, I set up a folder to store all of them in. Then within that folder I set up more folders with labels like animals, holidays, shapes etc.
Hope that helps. If you need more info, just enter a term in the search box in the upper right of this screen, then select any of the posts for more info. Lots of great info stored on this site.

Re: Newbie here in need of help
Another good idea I use is take you SCAL program and move it to a shortcut on your desktop.. I also do this with SCUT files which have their own folder and svg which also has it's own folder..

Thank you. I will give these a try. I'm having a hard time with the font thing.
Re: Newbie here in need of help
If you do a search in youtube you can find a zillion and one things relating to scal. If you do a search on how in install fonts, and pick the one by scappydew, it will show you what you need to do. Plus you can search for anything you want to know in scal and you'll probably find it there. I'm just starting and I do that. Also there are alot of tutorials here by members, and Penny Duncan Creations has alot of good tutorials. It gets frustrating at times, but people here are really good at helping.

Re: Newbie here in need of help
With XP, I usually just unzip fonts that I want installed directly into my fonts folder. Most of my fonts I don't install though. I have a separate folder for them that isn't the system fonts folder. When I want to use a font, I go to the folder where I keep it, open the font, then open the program where I want to use the font. This works for both SCAL and Inkscape.
SCAL also has a font refresh button that looks like a circular arrow. You can open fonts after you open SCAL, just click on the font refresh button after you open the font. This is also great if you install a font while SCAL is open. HTH

Now I just did that refresh and I keep getting an error message saying SCAL has encountered an error and needs to close.

Re: Newbie here in need of help
I believe I have...I followed the instructions from "scrappydew"'s youtube video. I'm also in search of SVG files. Starting to get really frustrated that I now spent a lot of $$$ (for me) and can't use this....
