Pdf to Svg conversion?

Post by LittleMissStamper »

Does anyone know where to find info on how or IF you can convert a PDF into an SVG? I have some great templates and would love if I could get the machine to just cut them for me :)

Some pdf files are rasterized and need to be traced to convert them to vectors. Some are vectors, but have a lot of separate lines and open shapes that won't cut right in SCAL.

Open Inkscape, import your pdf file. Change the view to outline (from the menu, View/Display mode/Outline). If your pdf has vectors they will show as thin lines. If it was rasterized (bitmap) it will show as a red x and you will need to either trace it or use the paint bucket tool. All "grouping" will need to be removed before tracing.

I have a post on my blog about converting the vector pdf's to svg here. If they are open lines, you will need to connect the lines to make a cutable file.

Thanks that helped a ton! =) Now I am just trying to figure out a way to erase the ------ score lines on the PDF template, lol.

Ahh I figured it out, break apart and then I just deleted them. Only problem now is it looks fine in Inkscape but when I import svg in SCAL one of the lines is "broken" as in it doesn't go all the way to the top to meet the other line like it does in inkscape  I have tried a few things to fix it, problem is it looks fine until I import as svg :|

Look at the preview in SCAL. Sometimes parts of lines don't show until you preview the cut, but as long as they are complete in Inkscape they should be OK in SCAL.
