Using fonts in inkscape

I can see my fonts in the drop down menu but when I try to select it it goes back to default "sans". How can I use my fonts? Is this normal in inkscape?

Della, I think if you select your font, then click on your mat you should then be able to type whatever you want

You need to change the default setting on the font. Click on the font option in the top bar. It will be the T. Once you click it a screen will pop up of all the fonts you have installed in your computer. Find the font you want and CHOOSE default in the lower left corner of the screen. On mine the DEFAULT option is hard to see and is mostly off the screen.
