Dingbats are like a font, when you install new ones they go into your font folder. Some dingbats can be used just like they are (just like text fonts) and some need to be edited so that they won't cut into a lot of little pieces. Susan Bluerobot has some good tuts on editing dingbats. http://forums.surecutsalot.com/viewtopi ... &sk=t&sd=a A good place to start learning about using Inkscape is the tuts on the Craft Edge website. http://www.craftedge.com/tutorials/tutorials.html

When you have the dingbat 'font' loaded into your computer just open SCAL and type or create away. There are a lot of them out there that are simple enough to not need inkscape, but if you do run across one that is too 'busy' to cut inkscape does the trick.

I am having trouble opening a tiff dingbat in inkscape. Is that possible? I need to edit the double lines in the tiff dingbat and cannot open it in any program. Thanks for your help.

Is it a tiff or ttf? Tiff is an image extension. If you have a tiff, import it into Ink and Path/trace bitmap. If it is a ttf, it is a font, and you use the font tools in Ink. After you place fonts in Ink, don't forget to Path/Object to path before you are done.
