How do I convert .studio files to .svg?

Post by HTD401 »

I have several files that need to be converted from .studio to .svg I only have the basic (free) version of Silhouette Studio and it will not allow me to save as an .svg. I was told to use an older version of Studio (1.9) which I have tried but it still wont save as an svg file. If someone could please help, I would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to find an older version of the studio software at one time as I liked some of the Silhouette files and was willing to purchase them, however, I can't cut with their file format.

To my knowledge, it is no longer available (and I never found it).

Supposedly, you are able to convert studio files using the 1.9v of the studio software, which I have but it still would not allow me to do it so I am at a loss. I was hoping someone could explain how to do it (as I am not familiar with Studio) or point me in the direction of where to convert the files. Thanks!

You need Silhouette Studio version 1.9 or 2.0. You can find 1.9 here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ckv9z ... o1.9.0.zip

You also need to have the designer version of Silhouette Studio, it doesn't work with the free version. Once you install version 1.9, upgrade it to the pro version. Be sure to have it on it's own computer, or one that doesn't have studio on it already (or has been removed) or it will upgrade past 1.9. I have it on a little netbook and use it just for converting my studio files, and don't connect that one to the internet so I don't accidently upgrade it when I open it.

Anyway, open your silhouette files in 1.9, then save them again, typing in .svg for the file extension. If it insists on adding the silhouette extension, you can change it later to svg doing a file name change.

Those are the basics, and I don't know if it will convert files made in the very newest version of studio, I haven't tried it. If you have problems, come back and I can give you the more complicated explaination.
