I'm not sure if this is in the right place. I'm sorry if it's not!

Re: Need help with an SCAL2 file
Go ahead, right here where you type your post...below and click 'browse'...find the file for us to take a look at, and click on 'add the file'...then back up and click the 'submit'.
Just a tip, though,...I use Path and Union...not weld.
A lot is in the Copy and Paste of things too...meaning...take the image and make a few copies to have on hand and move them off to the side...go back to the first one and drag your cursor around what you are wanting to 'weld', but go to Path and Union, instead. You can go to one of the copies and drag a box around it all and Path Union, and then also go to Appearance in the side panel and STYLE and change the drop down to a shadow...
From Windows at the top you can click on Layers and see all the layers...you can right mouse click on a layer and delete it, or move it up or down...you can drag with a hold on the left mouse with your cursor up and down.
Post the file if this is not enough...someone will take a look.

Re: Need help with an SCAL2 file
Thanks so much! That helped tremendously, but I'm still having one problem.
It's looking exactly right, except for the overlapping parts of the monogram are no longer welded together. I need it to be one solid piece of monogram and then the circle surrounding it. I'm sure I'm making this harder than it has to be.
I've attached the file.
Thanks again!

Re: Need help with an SCAL2 file
Here you go...
When you open...Click View at the top and 'fit to window' so you can see the pages...gave you some options.
You need to understand merge...OUTside circle and INside circle...select all and Object Merge, or use Path Front minus back or the other way around.
You used Merge on the letters...they would be Select all(put a box around) and UNION. Sometimes first you have to Break Apart.
It can get a bit tricky...but practice is the key to getting it.
Look at all of the options at the top in Scal. Get familiar with MERGE, UNION, Front-Back, and Back-Front.

Thanks so much! The way you had each section laid out, I was able to do it myself perfectly!

OUtstanding!!! If you need anything else as you go through the learning process...just jump on an ask. Sometimes it is just a tip in the right direction that is all that is needed. Enjoy it!
