Node Issue

Post by 1artgirl »

I am trying to edit a shape. I am having an issue with creating “Tangent Lines” to create a curve. Some of the node I create will make the two circles so that I can edit, some of the nodes will only make one circle on one side of the node, and some of the nodes will not make the circles I need at all. I have deleted them, added them again, and have done everything I can think of to make the little circles. It is very random.

What am I doing wrong? I am doing everything it says in the help menu.

I swear, if I am trying to make a straight line, they poke their ugly head out.

Hi, it would be helpful if you tell us exactly which versions of the program you are using. i.e. SCAL1.x, SCAL2.xx, SCAL3.xx or eCal 1.xxx. Also are you on a Mac, Win, Vista etc.

The node tool has evolved over the years and it does make a difference.

This way someone with the exact configuration, or similar will be along to help.

Papasue is right...we forget, so it is a good idea to go into you User Control Panel and search around for the signature area and type some info there about what you use.

Try using 'simplify'.

It is Sizzix eCal .scut3 on Windows7.

Simplify is not applicable because I only have 3 nodes trying to make a curve.

Hi, if you look under HELP within ecal there is a manual. Under DRAWING are instructions. Here are a couple of pages of it. I know there is a video somewhere from svgcuts or scrappydew and I'll try and find it for you. I hope this helps you figure it out.

I've never been able to make this work but hopefully someone else with more experience can provide more hints.

I had not tested in scal3 which is the same as ecal, but you are correct...I then went to my scal2 and tried the same thing and can get the handles with using simplify(it does not change the shape of the triangle...just reveals the handles).

Seems like a bug to me in ecal. Please send a message to info@craftedge and include a link to this topic thread. They will respond to you quickly.

Sue, the problem in not when drawing a shape with the pen, it is when editing a shape with the node edit tool..

When editing a shape there is no means to create a particular node type, or to change a node type from corner to curve. The node editing is very severely lacking in functionality to be honest and it is quite a major issue which is cropping up quite often.

If you create a node in a straight line segment then the node is a corner node and no way to change it, if you create a node in a curved line segment then it is a curve node again with no way to change it

There are workarounds but the are all clumsy and have drawbacks..

If you simplify the shape it turns all nodes into curves, but sharp corners remain corners. However if you touch a handle of a corner node it then instantly turns into a full curve node and you completely loose the corner.

The other workaround is to union a circle where you want a curve node and then delete the extra nodes created to just leave the curve node, likewise to create a corner node in a curved line union a rectangle onto the object and delete the extra nodes to just leave a corner node.

The node editing really needs some extensive work in order to make it a 'usable' tool

Hi all I know this is a little late, but I just got a copy of SCAL and I ran into the same problems. I have a solution to the no "cusp node" problem. in a smooth node if you move a circle tangent node over the square that side of the node acts like a straight line, and if you move both circles over the square then the node acts like a point! Hope this helps!
