Saved File not opening
Re: Saved File not opening
There is nothing difficult at all about scal...
The blog that you are asking about is not svgcuts.com, so the info papasue gave is not applicable.
You should probably contact the people you recieved the files from and see if they can help you.
Paula, you have attached a picture here and we can not help you about the .svg's with just that.

Glad to know the info was universal for any .svg, and I should have known papasue would steer you right.

Re: Saved File not opening
Paula, it takes more than just importing a bitmap (jpg, png) into Inkscape and saving itunfortunately. The jonquil image must be converted to a vector. It takes a while to get the drift of Inkscape. I suggest that you go to you tube and find all of the beginners tutorials.Paula_Anne wrote:Additional problems.

Trace bitmap is one *this is the key to converting bitmap to vector.
Break apart is another so you can separate the flower from the stem
Good Luck to you, I've been learning Inkscape for nearly 4 years now and still learning! We all will be glad to help clarify whatever you need but you can learn a lot from the available videos for beginners.
I can write you the exact steps for your project and email them to you. You can PM me with your email. But for sure do try the videos.

Re: Saved File not opening
Thanks for the info. Just very disappointed. I have tons of digital stamp images, that I had wanted to use the eclips on. I see I will be able to do it, but obviously not for many many many months down the road. I watched a number of videos. I truly don't expect instant gratification, but taking years to learn a software? And truly it does seem like years. I do graphic design work for favors, and use Paint Shop Pro, learned that and had hoped this was going to be a bit easier. Oh well.
Unfortunately, the reasons I dislike my eclips are about even with the reasons I do like it. Not good stats.
Thank you so much for taking time to post and answer my questions.
I really appreciate the way people put aside their own stuff do do that.
Might not love my machine or software, but I do love everyone here who are so helpful.
have a great day everyone!
Hugs,
Paula

Re: Saved File not opening
It may not be that difficult for you if you are using the eClips and are looking to bring the digital stamps in to do a "print and cut" instead of paper piece project.
For example. Here is a digistamp I have. I opened eCal and did:
File - trace image
Then I browse to find my .jpg file (or my digistamp)
It opens in eCal.
I usually ungroup it to see my pieces or nodes.
You should then be able to print and cut.
It took me seconds to do this.
Give it a try.

Re: Saved File not opening
With Sandy's file you would need to select it all and make a copy and right click the mouse to paste in place and then make a shadow of it to cut around it(scal2)...ecal & scal3 users can just use object shadow layer, according to Sandy...I forgot.
It can be frustrating at first, but what I did was watch many tutorials, wrote down my own notes for quick reference, as I remember better when I have written something down. I printed many of others written tutorials to keep for reference. I familiarized myself with the software...by just placing a square on the page and then clicking on everything to see what happened to it...lol. I started simple with basic shapes....still love the basic shapes. It took me some time to understand Layers...and Pages...but once I learned those it helped a lot. Also, how the size of shadows can be changed and the look of them. I asked a lot of dumb questions, and people helped...thanks to all here.
Every version of the software is a tiny bit different, so I save them all now, and learned that the hard way...so I can go back a version if the present one does not work the way I am use to.
I downloaded a lot of other people's work and learned so much from looking at how they did things. I asked people to help me make somethings. Then, soon I began to get it and the rewards were huge...such a feeling of accomplishment and you can get that too, but start simple, and the intricate nature of stamps is not so simple for the break apart and merge, etc. Shoot, seems I just learned what merge does...but there are more than one way to do some things...I always was using front minus back or the other, depending on where in the layers the shapes were...
Arranging the layers was another huge leap for me to getting things to go smoother, by clicking on the image in the layers panel and then right click mouse and use the arrange top, bottom, or just up or down. Or, in the layers panel you can just grab a layer and keep moving it up or down till you get it where you want it.
I have learned to initially have multiple copies of the image to start, so if I mess up, they are there to continue with.
It is all a bit like working with a puzzle. My best friend is Edit and Undo... :)...Any operation can be stepped back to where you were if you don't like it...and you can undo a lot of mistakes by just continuing to click it.
Also, Keep Proportions box being checked...must always reselect the object and make sure the check mark is there. I try to always reselect my area of work before the next move.
If you want to cut digi stamps that were free to anyone...someone here can make them for you, also, and help in the beginning.
Was your file a free file...that I could post a cutting file of?
That was very simply traced in Scal, after I got it back to a picture in INK. I just pushed the trace button and there it was, and hit okay...selected all in FILE and Object break apart and Cut and Paste in Place to page 2 parts so I could see how I wanted to group them and made another shadow with the leaves to make the leaves easier to paste up. But I can not post unless it was free. Let me know. It is just the picture all in pieces anyway, no longer a digistamp.
I was just thinking about how front minus back or the other can only be done with two objects...so if you have 3, 2 have to be grouped OR you just drag a box around one at a time with the part you want to back minus front from...whereas merge needs to be done with all ungrouped images. This was confusing to me at first.
