I've just purchased SCAL for the Mac and I'm having problems with welding with at least 2 fonts (2 that I've been very excited about...CK Chunky Block and Doodle Super Fat) I've successfully welded and cut with other fonts, so I think I have the process right...but, when I click "Preview", none of the gray lines appear and when I cut, it cuts out the little spots where the letters overlap....
Any ideas?
Does Welding not work with all fonts?

well I'm very new to scal...so am not really sure...but did have the same problem with a font myself. what I did was ungroup the word. then go back and NUDGE each letter individually until it was just touching the letters before and after it. then I hit weld. then I regrouped. then I hit weld. when I did preview it did end up showing the little bits of gray. and the word did cut together and worked fine. hope this helps.

Hi, I tried the CK font and I had the same problem as you did, I welded the letters together and it didn't show any grey, I then clicked on break apart (under object) and deleted the upper layer, that solved the problem, the only thing is that the font shows a lot thinner, hope this makes sense,

The problem with both of those fonts is that they are outlined, so when you weld them, it is the outline that welds, not the letters themselves. It would be better to find a solid font for welding, unless you just wanted a welded frame.

Thank you! I've never noticed that it was outlined - the lines were right on top of each other. (Heather, how did you know that? Is there an easy way for me to figure that out?) Once I did the break apart and took off the top layer, it worked!
FYI...I had one small problem that I figured out and someone else may want to know the fix....in Doodle Super Fat, once I took off the top layer, welded, and re-grouped, I checked the preview and the small little circle in my "a" letter was grayed out as well. I clicked on that small circle and unclicked weld. Hit preview and then it worked.)
Awesome!! I love those fonts!

You can tell they are outline fonts because of how they look in the font menu or when printed on paper. The face is white with a black outline, instead of solid black.
