So I want to make a card ...
I have my .svg made and ready to go, flipped the other side so it's the size I want in Inkscape, but I can't get it to merge in scal. I know it's going to be a simple thing, but I'm not smart enough to figure it out!! OY! Any help appreciated!

Hi, didn't want you to think no one was responding...but I think your question is a little unclear. Are you trying to make a shape card, like say a heart for the front and back of the card? You need to weld both shapes together. Hope this helps.

I'm making a card shaped like a barn. I had purchased the .svg files and thought I would manipulate them in Inkscape. As it turns out, I was able to just flip the shape and weld it in scal. I think I finally figured it out ... If only things keep progressing throughout the year lol! Thanks for responding! P.S. Do you know of a way to do this in Inkscape and import into scal? If yes, feel free to holler back.

You should be able to select the front and back pieces and use Path/Union. Make sure that the pieces don't have Group, you can't use any of the Path operations on anything that has Group. Also, once you close the file this can't be undone. HTH

I'll give that a try ... I don't exactly understand the difference between path/union, combine and group, but I'll fumble my way through!! Thanks for the help!

Path/Combine and Object/Group are very similar. They pretty much do the same thing except that you can use Path operations after Path/Combine and you can't do Path operations on vectors that have Object/Group currently on them.
Group should not be used on files for SCAL1 since SCAL1 tends to distort/misplace Groups. Group can be used to create layers for SCAL2.
Path/Combine puts different vectors into one Path without changing the nodes in any way. It can also be undone at any point.
Path/Union puts different vectors into one Path. It eliminates any nodes that are inside the solid areas. It can't be undone once the file has been closed, it is a permanent weld.

OOh -- thanks HeatherM!! I have both, but I've continued to use SCAL1 because I haven't taken the time to figure out SCAL2. Off work today -- sounds like a good time to play!
