SCAL and drawing (not cutting?)

Post by intothewoods »

I'm new to all of this and thinking of buying the Cricut Expressions and SCAL :)

I know that you can draw on paper using cricut cartridges, but I'm wondering, can I use images created and imported by SCAL to do the same - or do I HAVE to cut them, and not be able to use the drawing tool on cricut? Just curious.

Thanks - you guys have been very informative - I've been browsing all the posts! Thanks!

Yes, and SCAL is better for drawing than cartridges are. All of the images on the cartridges are designed for cutting, not drawing, but you can use then for drawing by replacing the blade with a pen. Since you can make your own designs with SCAL, you can optimize them for drawing if you want. For instance, here are some fonts that make simulate single strokes for drawing that you can use with SCAL.

Be aware you're going to get LINE DRAWINGS, that is just thin lines. You won't be able to do photographs or pictures with "fills". And the pen stroke won't vary at all. You'll still be able to make some very cool things, and using Inkscape or some other drawing program with SCAL you could make some very nice things designed specifically for pen drawing that you couldn't do with cartridges.
