Newbie with a question

Post by JasonM »

I just bought the Cricut yesterday, thinking I would buy SCAL today -- However, I managed to find the "Bugs" forum.

I'm just wondering if this is a normal thing (understanding with any new programs, there will be bugs) - Freezing up, not cutting correctly, (also understanding that many of these issues appear to happen under Vista, and even Microsoft has given up on Vista.). I'm looking at using SCAL for the fonts only. I really just want to do some vinyl cut lettering - nothing to do with opening a picture, then using the trace feature, etc. Just plain 'ol words, with my fonts. This way, I don't have to buy a $60 cartridge everytime I want to change a font.

Am I going to run into these issues more than not?

Thanks for your help!!!

While some are or did have issues a lot of those bugs have been ironed out.. Make sure you get the latest SCAL 2.004.. You will find it at craftedge.com when you download it.. I have Vista and I've never had any of these problems and I've had SCAL 2 since it came out...You can also download the free Inkscape program for designing your own images and then importing to SCAL... I'm not sorry I ever got this product.. I LOVE IT>. as others will same the same..

You definitely want to get SCAL (I think the latest version is 2.005). I've never had problems and rarely use my cartridges anymore. The fonts feature is excellent and the svg's that are available for the "not-computer-clever" type (like me) is amazing. If you're the "clever" type, be sure to download the free Inkscape program. You can make your own designs. Another great thing about SCAL is that theses folks take care of their customers. If you have a question or a problem, they HELP you, and everyone on the forum tries to help, and you don't have to wait weeks for assistance. I know you're LOVE SCAL!

I have had minimal problems..and they are NOT worth giving the program up for by anymeans!! with the freezing mine has seemed to pretty much restarted right where i left off..yes its annoying..but you can work around it..the only issue i have that makes no since is with lettering when i shadow..sometimes it removes a letter..like for example if i type japan looks perfect then in shadow the j is not there or some crazy shape..im sure they are working on it though..just kinda strange!!
so the whole point to me commenting is yes there are some bugs..but NOT AT ALL WORTH NOT GETTING IT FOR!!! especially if you want it for fonts!!
also most the time someone on here has a way to get around an annoying issue if you ask!!
hope that helps alittle!

Thank you very much for the responses!

I bought it about an hour ago (during the Packer game) expecting it to take some time to download. Surprisingly, it was about a minute. I'm looking forward to "playing" with it this afternoon.

Thanks again for the help... The three of you made the difference!

Wow. I am SO NOT disappointed I bought SCAL. It makes the Cricut so much more usable... for a lot less $$$$$$.

This is unbelievable. I'm gonna have vinyl decals on everything I own!!! :D
