Hi!
I am a newbie here, and i so desperately need help!
In order to use Sca, i need to upgrade the firmware on my E. The only problem that i have is that i can't open the design studio. I have tried the advices on the cricut messageboard, but nothing helps! I just keep getting the message that says that windows has encountered a problem and needs to close.
I have also tried contacting PC, but i don't get any replies from the at all. I am so frustrated right now!!!!!
Maybe someone can help me?

if it were me, i would go to windows control panel and uninstall cds, then turn my machine offcompletely, bing it back up and reinstall cds. use the activation number they gave you to begin with. in theory, this should solve your problem, assuming cds was working properly in the beginning.
also, after you install cds, you might want to try using scal BEFORE you install any of the firmware or software updates for cds. if i recall correctly, some of the people on the Cricut mb didn't start having trouble until AFTER they did updates. I have never updated CDS and i have never had a problem with it or with scal
as for PC/Cricut customer service, i have not been able to get hold of a human being either by phone or email for several months, and apparently many others are experiencing great frustration also.

Are you using vista on your computer? I had a lot of trouble with CDS because of that. I was able to fix it.
If you still can't get it to work and you are using vista let me know and I might be able to help you.
You could also try uninstalling it and reinstalling it from the disk or download the trial version. I only had trouble with mine when I entered the activation code. The trial version worked ok and you can update the firmware with just the trial version.

I have tried to uninstall it and reinstalling, but no luck. I use xp, and not vista. I have never been able to open cds at all, so i've never been able to get past the error message. I have tried to install severl trial versions, and nothing helps!
What is so frustrating about this is, that i can't use SCA without getting cds to work in order to upgrade my firmware...
I really don't know what to do in order to make cds work. I can't believe that Pc is happy releasing a program that has so many faults!!! I have never had any problems installing other programs.

Sorry you aren't having any luck. Maybe you could get a friend to load trial
CDS on their computer and you could update your firmware from there. I know that
would be a pain but at least you could start using SCA.

Also, are you running service pack 2 because you need to be for ds to work.

I know that many people had a hard time installing CDS if they were not logged on the first administrator file. I can't run it from any other log in options on my computer except mine. I tried the other day b/c I didn't want to switch users and it encountered an error and wouldn't work. Off course I have been unsure about the updates of CDS and have not done any yet for the software program or the firmware.

If you have a friend willing to download CDS just long enough for you to update your firmware that would work also.... Might be an issue with RAM

I will have my sister downloading the program and see if she can open it.
I am running service pack 2, and i doubt it's going to be a RAM problem causing this, since i bought my laptop just before christmas, and i haven't had any problems with it at all, exept with CDS.
This is just so annoying!!!!!!
If i had known that this was going to cause so many problems, i think i would have choosed a different cutter. I mean, i was happy with it before given the option to connect it to the comp, but now that the option is there, it is just so frustrating not being able to use it!
(I just had to vent....sorry...lol
