Frustrated

Post by miriam »

I am not able to get my SCAL to work. I upgraded my firmware to 1.32 and my SCAL is version 1.016. When I go to cut it gets hung on checking mat and goes nowhere. HELP!

Do you have the USB drivers installed. Download the ones that SCAL has at the site and install them manually. Make sure your Cricut is plugged into the computer and turned on when you do this. You will be updating the USB Serial Port! This seems to be very important if you have other USB ports etc with drivers installed.

Do you have a Cricut Cartridge in the machine. If no, put one in. Any one.

Do not have any other software running upfront or in the background. SCAL doesn't like any other programs to be running that use USB ports. Cell phones and scanner software have interfered with SCAL. There may be others.

Vista Users, are you running in XP mode? RIGHT click on the SCAL software icon on your desktop and Click the compatibility tab and check the XP box.

Do you have your Cricut plugged into a direct USB port on your computer and not one on a keyboard etc. If you are using a Laptop running on it's battery, sometimes the power management settings turn off things like USB ports. Check your settings and change them to stay on when power is getting low. You might want to use your plug with your laptop. If you don't know how to change the power settings, just keep moving your mouse around every two or three minutes to keep the computer active. This might sound like a pain in the butt, but it's worth it not to have your machine stop cutting during a very large cut.

I have the USB drivers installed that SCAL has on the site. My device manager matches exactly. I have a cartridge in the machine. I have no other software running. I am running in XP mode. The cricut is plugged directly into a usb port. I don't know what else to check.

Since you got it to work on your other machine, you might check out the device drivers and compare the two.
