When PC updates the DS for new cartridges

Post by Gingerstamp »

I know many of us had problems with our SCA cutting up our designs when we installed the last update by PC. They will be coming out with a new update soon to incorporate all the new cartridges and I wondered what we would do then. I emailed Todd and here is his reply:

Hi Susan
We cannot say at this time, as we will not know until it is released,
as to what was changed.
We will look into the new version when it comes out, and you can
email us again at that time to see what the status is.

Sincerely
-Todd Simmons

So, I'm very glad that SCA keeps on top of these things for us. I'd hate to have it start cutting all the shapes up when I NEED to update to include the new carts.

Personally, I am not buying any of the new carts because I really didn't care for them...but if I had to choose between new carts OR SCA...I pick SCA. However, let's hope that PC doesn't shoot themselves in the foot here, because I certainly want to buy some carts in the future...but not if it means losing SCA.

I will not update until I hear from this site or an email from SCA that it's safe to do so. Until then I'll just use my carts without DS for any I buy. I like some of them and will most certainly buy some.

Well, I was just over at the cricut message board and PC has released the new DS update with the new cartridges. I am holding out on downloading until I know it will not mess with my SCA!

I'm not bothered at getting any updates because I've hardly used DS since I got it. It's too much of a pain to use.

I still use my cartridges, but not bothered about welding any or anything. But I only have 4 cartridges so that's probably why. With SCA I design stuff I want to cut in my graphics package and import it etc.

Have you all updated your firmware? And SCA still works fine? no changes?

This is what I'd like to know...if it required a firmware update? The firmware update is where I got into trouble last time.
ETA: I downloaded the new version's installer and installed it. It was quick and didn't require a new firmware update...however I haven't tried to cut anything yet so who knows if it'll ask me to do that later when it's time to cut. So far so good though...the new carts are there...and it makes me want so many of them!!!! One flaw I noticed is on the new mini-carts you can't see what each button is until you roll your mouse over it. Each button has a tiny dot...not the shape like normal. But the Pooh carts you can see without the mouse roll-over.
