Saving fonts

Post by karriesmith »

I am trying to download a couple of free fonts I like, and when I click on download and then save, then unzip, there is nothing there except a text file that says the brown fox jumps (something like that)

What am I doing wrong?

That sounds like what happens when you double click the font file. If you are on Windows, try moving the font into the C:\windows\fonts folder. Once you move them into the Fonts folder, you should see the TTF file type association. When the font isn't installed in Windows, the file association displays as though it's a text file.

Ok, what operating system do you have on your computer? Explain if you can what you have tried, and when you say it still isn't there, do you mean that no programs see it, or do you mean that SCAL/Inkscape don't see it?

I am assuming that you have something like this before you click on it (different font).

Select the file, then from the menu go Edit/Move to folder/ then My computer/C/windows/fonts. Then select Move. You should be able to see it in any of your programs after that.

When you're in SCAL and have the fonts window open, there's a button with a little circle with an arrow. This is the refresh button. Click on this and it rechecks your font folder. It should show up after you click that button. You should NOT have to close and open SCAL to see a newly downloaded font.

Wow, I never even noticed that button before. Thanks for pointing it out.
