HELP! When I use trace feature SCAL2 stops working

Hi there, I just got SCAL2 and use it with a cricut machine. I have watched tons of tutorials this weekend on YOUTube and I feel like I have it down. UNTIL.......I use the trace option. I download a free not copyrighted clip art safe it to my desktop then I open SCAL2 and go to trace then I browse and click on my jpeg image. It never shows up in the black box. So then I click ok and it says this program has stopped working please close and reopen or something like that. I have tried numerous files and all different kinds of clip art. I am so frustrated and could use your help Please it would be so appreciated! I will say when I go to svgcuts and download a free SVG file of theirs its does work when I use the SVG tab. I even went to inkscapes and tried to convert the image but when I went to find it in SCAL2 it gave me an error. HELP! Thanks in advance!

Molly, it would help if you told us what computer OS you are using...Mac xxx or Win xxx.

Have you recently upgraded your software on the computer?,

You can try reinstalling SCAL2 if you still have the installer software.

Let us know how you do.

Hi there, I am using windows 7. I haven't updated my computer software lately. I bought the SCAL2 on Amazon last week. From what I have been reading since I posted this is it may be a bootleg version and that's probably why it's not working. Everything else is working perfectly, just not the trace feature.

So sorry you didn't know that you cannot buy a copy of SCAL2.

When you say everything else is working do you mean that you can create something in SCAL2 and cut it but not save/open or trace after that?

I'm surprised that Amazon was selling copies of SCAL. On Ebay maybe, but Amazon.

Sure enough, they are selling it on Amazon and they look like legitimate copies of the software. The discs and packaging look like the original.

Did you get an Activation Key to register the software?

No, I did not. it's a company called tech junkies. They were very helpful at first and I haven't heard from them in a couple of days.

They are selling bootleg software. Real copies of SCAL require either an online activation or a code provided by Craft Edge. Legal copies of SCAL2 haven't been available since spring 2011. Also, the program isn't transferable, so it can't be legally sold/transferred from one person to another.

ETA: I would try to get my money back since this is fraud. Either through Amazon or your credit card company.
