Disappearing Image

Can someone help me please? I have a photo that was traced in Inkscape, I saved it to my desktop as an svg I then imported it into SCAL but when I go to cut it with my SB it disappears. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? TIA

What disappears? the photo or the tracing

it might be the stroke and fill are set to either white or the same as the background colour or both are turned off (set to none)

if it's not a copyright issue you could post the file here and someone can take a look at it for you.

do you not use the "send to scal" plugin with inkscape? do you save the svg and then open it - just wondering if sending it would help

If you are trying to do Print and Cut you need to embed the image in the svg. Select the image, then from the menu select Extensions/Image/Embed image. I don't think I have the newest version of Ink, so the steps might have changed slightly.

If your cut lines aren't showing in SCAL, try viewing your svg file in Inkscape in outline mode (View/Display mode/Outline). If there are cut-lines, they will show as thin black lines. Images will show as red boxes with an x through them.

Gaz, unless the SCAL mat is set to white, vector shapes set to white for fill or stroke should still show. I use white on purpose for my print and cut shapes because then I don't need to remember to change anything for printing. Just send to SCAL, print, and go.

yes they would show on screen but not print (you can't print white) and I was unsure if OP was talking about disappearing on screen or on the page.

it was just options to look for that might help fix the problem. if the object is blue but it vanishes on screen or print then something is wrong but if it's white it could look like it's vanished when it's still there

Gaz, It is a trace of a photo it's black, when I click on the preview window or the cut with SB button it disappears. If I click on cut it says there is no image to cut. How do you send it to SCAL from within Inkscape? Thanks for your help.

Clicking preview it will vanish as preview only shows the cutlines and reg marks. the actual image will vanish as this will never be sent to the cutter

preview is kind of what your cutter will be sent.

now with the cut button it should not but..... have you tried clicking the image and over on the appearance window click the type and sent to print and cut - print that *might* fix it.

on the craftedge download page there should be an extra downloads under the main ones, click that and you should find the plugins - make sure you get inkscape not illustrator and get it for your version of Scal (or pro, which ever you have) .

you install it and then under extensions you have a send to scal option. so you can send the design - I find, as I have a lot of fonts, I need to open scal first or it times out waiting for the fonts to load but under "normal" operation it will open scal and put the design on your page.

It also disappears when I click cut with my cutter. Under appearance the only option is flip.I'm gonna try to download the plug-in for Inkscape, maybe that will be easier to do. Thanks!

I would re download the scal program and re install that too - sounds like something is not right.

View your file in Inkscape in Outline view. It sounds like it is just the embedded image with no Paths/Vectors. If you don't see any thin black lines in Outline view then you don't have any cutting lines.
