trouble with shadow

This doesn't happen with all my fonts, but some of them don't work well with shadow...or I am doing something wrong. Some of them, when I try to make the first shadow, it cuts off some of the letters. Mostly like the last one, but sometimes some in the middle, or every other one. The font I am trying to use is called Kaufman Bd Bt. It is the closest one I can find that is like Cursive 101 (one of my favs), but I'm trying to make 4 layers. I can do it with some other fonts. Weird. Anyone else have this happen, or know why this is?
