Mouse jumping around - can't select objects

I've installed an updated my Version of Sure Cuts A lot v3. I thought I needed to update it because I'm having weird problems with my mouse. The mouse jumps all around when I try to select a graphic. I've checked settings - can't figure out what's going on. It was working before - I've rebooted and tried several things. please help

This may be too obvious but have you checked the USB connection to your mouse? Could be a loose connection.

Does your mouse work normal for everything else?

Yes, the mouse works fine on everything else. It's just in SCAL. I can't use the selection tool. The mouse cursor jumps away from what I am trying to select.

Does it happen on any other SCAL file?

It happens on all SCAL files only. I am going to try uninstalling and reinstalling. I updated my machine to Windows 8 and I wonder if it is from that? But it worked when I had a non-released version of Windows 8. When I had to reimage my machine with Win 8, the released version, that's when I seemed to start having issues. Might be a coincidence though.
