Hi. I'm a new Cricut owner and SCAL user. I created an .svg file in Illustrator and imported it into SCAL. It looks fine and the preview is exactly how I want it to cut. However, when I send it to the Cricut to cut, it puts extra cuts in that aren't in the file and don't show up in the preview. I've tried a couple of different times and get the same results each time. I get an get an additional little cut at opposite ends of each inside bracket-shaped cuts. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi, if you post the svg file you are using, someone will take a look and see what is going on. Can we assume that you have a non-trial version of SCAL? A trial version of SCAL will cut extra lines you know.

Yes please post your svg file.
I am thinking it might be because you have drawn lines and not closed objects.
In SCAL you cannot cut lines - you have to cut very thin rectangles. All objects you cut must be closed up like a circle or square and not be lines that have open ends - if that sort of makes sense.

Hi, I had a thought about this. Why not use square brackets from a font? I don't know what you are making with the pattern but using a font will certainly be easier I think. I see what raewyn means about lines and slits, I've been hampered by this too. That was a great explanation of how Inkscape/SCAL do and don't play together well.
If you and raewyn don't figure it out give this a try. I know that Adobe Casalon has a square bracket.
Good Luck

Re: Cutting lines that aren't there.
Thanks for your replies. The lines are just basically slits, so I wonder if that is the problem. Here is the .svg file. I suppose I could modify the design some and make the bracket shaped things bigger. It was an idea I got out of one of my magazines for a little accordion-folded mini album. I thought it would be an easy project to draw in Illustrator since it was all straight lines. So, much for that, huh!

I know you have a broken image with a combined image. If you select everything and change the color you have one image and if you select everything again and break apart you have you can see the other images
I relooked at this and am not for sure what happened. Sorry am not able to help. Maybe annointedhands can, she's really good.

Hi All,
The problem is the lines. I made them as connected and in the preview it shows as it will cut correctly. I always forget that and end up with a line that cuts as a box. Hope this works for you cindylou I was not really sure how this folds into an album but you can clean it up a bit in inkscape.

I too thought I had fixed it but if you remove the black background you still have those bracket looking Marks/Cuts behind and they don't look like they can connect. Course it is possible that it will cut right but don't know

Hi Grammy,
I made this file in KnK and exported it to inkscape as the .svg. If you view it in inkscape switxh to outline mode, zoom in and you will see it is a closed path. Also if you import it to scal and view the preview screen you will see it show as a cutable line, whare as in the first file cindy posted if you open that in scal and look at the preview you will see the lines are greyed out. I always check because I have a tendancy to leave open path coming out of the Knk software. I do everything in knk and funtime and cut with my daughter expression. Can you believe I love that darn cricut better than my KnK. Mostly because I can get the blades at ac moore or michaels and not have to order online.

I hope this comes through alright. I haven't added a jpg in a long time to the forum
. I double clicked on your svg file (it activated inkscape)and I then seperated the black background and the little slots looks like brackets. But like I say I haven't cut it out and don't know if it will make the slots or brackets.
Grammy
I did however go back and import it in scal and here is what i see. Is it possible you can send a screen shot of your scal image?
I would like to see what I am doing wrong.
