Halloween Mesh Cut in Vinyl

Here's a design I made and cut out in black vinyl and placed on a 6"x6" tile. I was thinking about making a glass block, but I thought I would test it on the tile first.

I have a question. What method or technique do you use to keep the vinyl from prematurely sticking to the surface? When I was trying to center it on the tile, it stuck on before I had it exactly where I wanted it and I could tell if I tried to pull it away I was going to have a mess on my hands. Luckily it wasn't too far off. I have an idea in my head, but I'm not sure it will work the way I think it will.

my technique is to use the transfer tape (TT), and line up where I want the vinyl to go before I peel any TT away.

Then I peel away just an inch or two of the TT and line up/center my top horizontal edge where I eyeballed it while the TT was still on.

Once I get those first few inches on, then I peel back more TT.

Hope that makes sense. I usually do larger tiles (12x12) so I am not sure it that would work on a smaller 6x6.

You could also use the wet technique, using a soap/water mixture. You could search more info on that method.

That is so cool!! Another method you could use is to spray the tile with water first.. Just a bit.. and then squeegie the vinyl on once you are satisfied to take out the excess water..

From mareycontrary - post about half way down page 2 - using the "hinge method" for vinyl:

Basically once you get the decal with transfer tape on it lined up and centered, you then run a piece of tape down the center to create a "hinge". Then, peel back and remove one side of the vinyl backing, and use a squeegee to press the vinyl down onto your project (tile in this case). Then you remove the center piece of tape and the other half of the vinyl backing, and smooth down the vinyl like you did on the other side. Make sure to press it down firmly with the squeegee, then just carefully remove your transfer tape, and your decal should be perfectly alligned. Hope this helps

DogCarbon - thank you again for your help. After your first comment I went on youtube and looked at some videos. Visuals along with words helps me a lot. I have always worked with pieces of vinyl, so I never had this problem.
