What Machine to Use

Post by cortanteemu »

I have been considering upgrading to an expression from my little Cricut Personal. With recent events, I might want to change to a different company all together. i'm a bit supporter of SCAL!!

What machines are you guys using out there and what are the pros and cons of them?

As an alternative the ecraft and craft robo both can use SCAL. Several reviews online. I don't know much about them but maybe others may come along and add more info.

The craft robo cuts the narrower size, not 12".
There is a craft robo pro that cuts wider and is more costly.

The ecraft cuts the wider 12" width.
Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to use one yet.

I use the Gazelle by Bosscut and love it. I know u can use SCAL to cut but I wasn't able to do it consistently. The software that came with the Gazelle can only be used with a dongle and I thought I lost mine so I tried using SCAL and was satisfied with the results. I haven't used my Cricuts in a long time. The cutter does not need carts and the software has a serious learning curve but anyone can learn it once u put ur mind to it.

Another vote for the Gazelle. It's a wonderful machine. I do own a Silhouette, and their "print 'n cut" is wonderful. The only issue with this one is, it only cuts 8.5x11 and you're limited in the cardstock weight. I have 120# cardstock I use with copics, and the Silhouette cannot handle it. I've cut 80#, but have to cut twice depending on the design of the cardstock (smooth vs. textured). The Gazelle can handle anything.

Dawn from Thyme Graphics and Sherri from Thats scrap inc. Have announced that the Black Cat Cougar and the Lynx will soon be working with Scal very soon. These are very high grade cutters
the Cougar comes in sizes 13,18,24 inch widths and can cut unlimited legnth
the Lynx are 12 inch and cut unlimited legnth

for the UK link http://www.thymegraphics.co.uk/products.asp?cat=12
the USA link http://thatsscrapinc.com/blackcatcutters.aspx

this is a link to a comparision chart . http://thatsscrapinc.com/ComparisonChar ... ackCat.htm the lynx is not on that chart it is just being reintroduced and is much like th Cougar except it has about450 grams of force I think I have to double check my notes. They offer excellent support and of course i should mention that Ido help with the first hour start up support.

I use the Gazelle & Silhouette. The Gazelle is a powerful cutter with a lot of features. I love my Silhouette too but I mainly use it for Print & Cut. I rely on my Gazelle for everything else.
