Need help with welding

I'm welding letters and findind that the 'holes' in the letters are welding shut. This didn't happen in SCUT 1.0. Please advise. Thanks so much.

When you type the word...try this. Type it all out and then select the whole word and UNGROUP...but not BREAK APART.
Now move the letters to overlap just slightly and put a box around all the letter and select WELD. I think the BREAK APART is what makes the centers disappear on welding.

I loved my older version of SCAL and had a difficult time with the upgrade at first...but after some time it is so worth all the added features. I am glad I kept trying with it.
