I use what is called the "hinge technique". Basically, cut the image on a white sheet of cardstock, and then slightly lift it and position the printed part under and line it up...you can then remove the top, which is what I do...reload the mat and hit cut again. If you googled about print and cut "hinge technique", I am sure you would find videos to watch of how it is done. I you want a little white showing around your printed image, cut the shadow cut of the image and position your printed just inside of it...and so on. Hope this helps.

On the new update there is an option to print and cut an image - has anyone messed with this and figured it out?

I've played with this successfully. What I do.,

Bring your image into SCAL
Make a copy
Do a shadow blackout to the size that you want
delete the extra nodes inside the shadow if you can. I'm having problems deleting nodes in 2.038.

Place the shadow over the image to insure alignment

Turn off the shadow layer

print the image to your printer ensuring that the paper size and orientation match your image (check preview)

Take the paper from the printer and place on your SCAL mat exactly as you see on the screen.

Turn off the image leaving only the shadow image

Cut that.

Some problems you may encounter is a calibration between the print and the mat. Mine fortunately is spot on so I didn't have any problem.

I love it. That is the technique I used on the Santa Sleigh I used in a previous post.

You can PM me if you have problems.

Calibration between printer and cutter is off for me. I tried everything...moving paper in and down alittle on the mat, then it seemed to need to go in and UP, then tried printing at the 1.0 mark on the X & Y axis' and then making the shadow X & Y different to try to compensate for where it would cut. I can not make it work and will just stick with the hinge technique, unless someone as some specific coordinates that works for them...for me to try,...it's just taking too much brain power for me to do it.

Update below:must follow the directions above to a tee and it works :)

I continued to try and realized I was copy pasting to a second page, and then using just the shadow rounded feature.

I went again and followed the directions accurately(use shadow BLACKOUT and adjust copy and PREVIEW and hide printed portion to cut)with MUCH improved results. Thanks papasue for the directions.
I am going to try again, now.

UPDATE with photo: I had to lay my paper just inside the feed line and up about an eighth of an inch. The wider edge is just the normal shadow blackout...then the girl on the right, I set the blackout to .35 to try to bring it closer.
I like the wider, and if I want it right close, I will still just use the hinge method. But now that I have the marks on my mat for paper placement, the wider edge is quite nice I think. The girls do need to put their makeup on though :)
