I just keep getting either the message "checking the mat" or "checking cartridge."
Mine is version 1.31 and I check the version 1.3. which is my only other choice...

Re: Another new person who can't get it to work
Anyone here who can really help you(not me), or a Customer Support, will need much more info.
They will want to know what kind of computer operating system you are using?
What version of SCAL that you have? Did you download from disc or from online?
So, if you provide more info it might help.

I'm using Windows 7, and I downloaded SCAL 2. I've tried rebooting, I've tried turning the cartridge the other way and it just always freezes at checking cartridge.

What Cricut machine are you using? I have never been able to get the Personal machine to work with Windows 7. It stops at the cutting stage.
The other types of Cricuts work with Win 7. Just make sure you download and install the USB drivers from the Craftedge website. And select the correct firmware in SCAL when the box pops up.
