Adhesive wearing out on mats - try this!

Post by hbennett »

I posted this on Cricut MB, but thought it may help others here, too.....

I don't know if anyone has thought of this and posted it or not, but I remember several posts about ideas for refreshing the adhesive on the mats... but I don't recall hearing this one before.

I was thinking about repositionable adhesive today and recalled that I had some for my Xyron. I taped off the edges of the mat and ran it through the Xyron face down (I did the first one the wrong way... I don't think I can save that mat!) using the repositionable adhesive. It is just like new... maybe even better than new. My xyron 900 can do my baby bug mats. Not sure if anyone has a bigger Xyron and could do E mats or not.

Enjoy!

Try using baby wipes on the backside of the mat you ran through the Xyron. It will probably take off the adhesive - you may need to try a couple, but be persistent, it will probably come off.

Yes, I was told from a lady that does cricut shows that she has never bought new mats. When they lose their stick just stick them in the sink with soapy water and get them nice and clean. When they are dry just use a repositonal glue stick, or even the two glue works great. I do it all time. :D

I read somewhere to wipe them down well w/ a baby wipe... Works great! I tried washing them in the sink, but the baby wipes work better & quicker.

I use Quilters spray from Wal-mart, it is by June tailor and it is in an aqua and purple spray can. You will never have to buy another mat!

I am going to sound and look like a complete idiot but what is a repositonal glue stick? I have never heard of it. Thanks :)

I have never bought a repositionable glue stick, but I do have repositionable adhesive for my xyron and in a spray can. I assume it's the same thing as the erpositionable glue stick... repositionable glue or adhesive holds, but it allows you to change your mind - if you get something in the wrong spot you can lift it and reapply elsewhere.

I (for some reason) kept all my old Cricut mats even though the sticky had worn off. I just tried cleaning real good with a baby wipe. It dried real fast & wow - it's good & sticky again! Thanks tons for the tip! :D
