Re: Buffalo
That is a wonderful buffalo!
Re: Buffalo
I love this buffalo and have tried to cut him out. It sends it right to inkscape which is fine. But I have a question..there are several layers which I was able to get then apart first time..has anyone cut this guy out and if so how?? I cut him out once but must have done something wrong as some of him are very thin like on his back..step by step instructions would be wonderful. Thanks in advance
Re: Buffalo
The buffalo has several layers. You'll need to ungroup them and separate them then cut the ones you want. To ungroup the object - right-click on the object and choose ungroup. Click on the object and drag a layer to a blank area. Repeat until all layers are separated. Look at the layers that would gvie you the best results and in which colors. Delete the extra layers. Arrange as you would want them imported into SCAL and cut.
I can work with the buffalo this evening and will post the layers that I think will give you the best results.

Re: Buffalo
Thank you for the help. I'll be watching for the layers that you think would work.
Re: Buffalo
Ok, I made the buffalo. Oh my! This is NOT an easy task, it takes time, patience, ability to fuss and fidget with imperfect fits, etc. NOT for the squimish. But, I LOVE the results!
I narrowed it to 4 layers. The gray, what I call base brown, the brown outline and the black outline. The cuts are best made in a larger size. I chose 4". I tried smaller than that and it was a mess. I have the baby bug so I had to put each layer in a separate file. I made them all the same size, but they don't quite match up. I first thought the gray (the bottom layer) was too big, but I think in the end the brown layer was too small. I just took what I had and trimmed, snipped and tucked where things showed beyond their boundaries or where needed to squeeze in to fit.
The black and brown outlines both have a line for the animal's back. Since the black is the final layer, I would cut off the back portion of the brown outline. Use onlly the black for the two lines sloping down the back. You could try making it without the gray layer and just adhere gray where the holes are for the toenails, horn and nose are.
I used a glue pen to adhere everything, though you could certainly use tape in some areas. Glue pens can be messy and I was getting tired and sloppy, so I have some glue stains on my buffalo. I'll probably use mine for some CU football pictures - the mascot is a real buffalo.
I'll upload the four scut files as well as an SVG file of the four layers that I used. (The original file had somewhere around 9 layers!) Then, I'll also upload a scanned copy of the buffalo that I made.
Enjoy!

Re: Buffalo
By the way, Jolene, I didn't read your first message correctly. The darker brown and the black did have thin lines going around the back of the buffalo. You need those for the outline look. Were I to do it again, I would cut off the brown outline for the back and use only the black as the black covers it up anyway. Use a glue pen to adhear it. You could probably use a sticker maker, but I find they leave gooey stuff on the edges.
If you decide to make it, please post it, I'd love to see it!

Re: Buffalo
I'll be making it don't worry. THANK YOU so much for taking the time to break it all apart and then giving us those layers for cutting them out. I had broken them out too but could never get it right. I think I was trying to save the wrong layers. This will be so much easier. THANK YOU once again. Our school logo is Bison this will be such a big addition to my pages. One that no one else will have...
Re: Buffalo
You're welcome. Please remember that the SCAL pieces will not match up exactly, you will need to trim here and there, and I spliced the lower middle of the dark brown one because it just had too much material in the middle.
Hints: Align the face first with all layers, then the feet. The gray horn and hooves need to show through all layers. The black layer will fit with some careful coaxing. I used a glue pen. I think I would cut off the thin line outlining the back in the dark brown color - the black goes in the same place and the layers get a little thick. The brown might need a little more care with fitting though. Lastly: have PATIENCE!!
Please post your results! Good luck!
