problems with SCAL freezing
problems with SCAL freezing
I just bought SCAL 2 and I am running windows 7. While I am working on my cut files the program keeps freezing up on me. Anyone else have this problem, or know how I can fix it?

Re: problems with SCAL freezing
Are you running SCAL in XP service pack 2 compatibility mode? You will want to deactivate your SCAL before you change the compatibility. See this post for more on how to do this. http://forums.surecutsalot.com/viewtopi ... 660#p55660 and the CE website for more on changing the compatibility. http://www.craftedge.com/products/xpmode.html
Re: problems with SCAL freezing
I'm guessing it maybe a problem with the USB drivers. Leo at svgcuts.com created a video about using the drivers:

Hope that helps....

I find if I hold the cursor down too long when moving something on the mat mine freezes and I have to shut down. Luckily it lets me go back to where I left off.
I should check out the two links mentioned and see if that's my prob. I also need to update to newest version today.

yes yes and YES GRRRRRRRRR It locks up on me when I am dragging something. It is ridiculous! I'm going to check out the links as well. I'm using vista home, and version 2.012. I did update the usb driver thing.
I have the program on a different computer, running windows xp, and have not updated the drivers, and it has not locked up on me yet.

Re: problems with SCAL freezing
Just some more thoughts on this. On my laptop (vista), I updated the usb driver by the drop down menu under under Help. I removed and reinstalled the program, and it still froze up. On the desktop I haven't updated the usb driver.
On my laptop, I have not connected the cricut to it. I have the cricut hooked up to the desktop. The desktop has not frozen up on me yet. I don't think any of this means anything, but maybe if someone from SCAL is reading this, they are taking notes lol

Re: problems with SCAL freezing
Thanks for all the replies. I switched it to XP service pack 2 compatibility mode ( I had it on 3) and now it works fine, even when I hold down my curser to long. Hope that this helps others as well.
Re: problems with SCAL freezing
Dumb question alert! How do you switch to XP service pack 2 compatibility mode?

Re: problems with SCAL freezing
You right click on SCAL (either on a shortcut or in the Start menu) and select properties. Then click on the Compatibility tab and check the box for Compatibility mode and select (in the drop-down box) XP service pack 2. There are more detailed instructions on the CE website here. http://www.craftedge.com/products/xpmode.html
If you aren't currently running in compatibility mode, you will want to deactivate your SCAL first, change to XP compatibility, then re-activate your SCAL. There are directions in this post on how to deactivate your SCAL. http://forums.surecutsalot.com/viewtopi ... 660#p55660

Re: problems with SCAL freezing
Thank you Heather. I did it and it seems to be working great. Hasn't frozen again yet.
